Today we are looking at the baby chicks we raised for our neighbor, Ron! Lets start at the beginning. Ron had been asking us for weeks for us to raise him some baby chicks. Because he is getting old and baby chicks require precision care.

One day it seemed that our schedules just lined up so we went to Tractor Supply and got 12 icea brown chicks and 5 unsexed golden commit chicks! And on the way home got ice cream!! When we got home we had already prepared a home in a 100 gallon cow tank with wood chips and a feeder and waterer. And when we transferred the chicks into there new home we checked all there vents to make sure they weren't covered in poop.

What is a Vent?

A vent on a chicken is the place the eggs come out (and the poop.) Now you know what a chicken vent is! So after we got them transferred you need to check on them every few hours to make sure they have feed and water. Then, about a week later Ron wanted some more chicks. We went to the Waterloo feed store and got 5 buff Orpington chicks and 5 barred rock chicks. We did the routine transfer to the tank! Then about a week later we did an event for families called Come Cuddle Our Chicks. This was a chance for kids and their families to hold the chicks, pet the chicks and feed the big chickens! Then a few days later we delivered the chicks to Ron. It was a bittersweet goodbye. It's a good thing Ron lives so close so we will be able to see them a lot.

Thank you for reading - bye!

Turkeys on the Move

Vyla, our 8 year old daughter, is this post's author... :) One day we got turkeys. They were a little bit bigger than baby chicks. We put them in a nursery for a couple weeks and then once they were done in the nursery, we put them outside on fresh grass. Once they were bigger we put them in a mobile turkey house and moved them to fresh grass each day.

There's a New Guard Dog for Hannah's Hens!

Our 8 year old daughter Hannah is today's author, here to share about a new addition to Hannah's Hens: Our new guard dog's name is Panda. He guards our front door really well! He sits on the doormat in front of the door so we can't go out. He's supposed to guard our chickens, not our door!

Welcome Home Reecee

Vyla, our 7 year old, is the author of this blog post. She's excited to share with you about a new addition to our family: "We got a new cat. Her name is Reecee. We got her in November. Her species is calico. We like to play with her. She likes to scratch us while she plays. I am going to give her a mouse toy for Valentine's Day. I already gave it to her because I was so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It bounces around and it also squeaks." To keep reading Vyla's account of our first-ever cat in the family, click & continue.... :)
