A Garden Growing

In Hannah's words:

"We grew a garden. We grew watermelon, tomatoes, corrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrn, green beans, and pumpkins. And we gave our 3 month old chicks Aronia berries. And they jumped up to eat them!"

Oh I hear the glee in her voice, do you? What I love as I reflect upon Hannah's words, is that our garden is pretty sparse, actually. It's not impressive to the outside eye, let alone to someone of experience. But we're learning. We're getting better. We're growing in our ability to tend a garden at about the same pace the plants are growing, too. What I love is that to our children - it's impressive. It's filled with wonder. The garden represents family time invested together preparing, planting, tending, watering and harvesting. I believe its the times shared there that makes it such a spectacular accomplishment in their eyes.

I love how when outcomes fall short of meeting our own adult expectations, when we glimpse the situation (or the garden in this case) from a child's lense, we experience awe and thrill.

Let's become more childlike!

What if that was the greatest key to Living Well Grounded?

Turkeys on the Move

Vyla, our 8 year old daughter, is this post's author... :) One day we got turkeys. They were a little bit bigger than baby chicks. We put them in a nursery for a couple weeks and then once they were done in the nursery, we put them outside on fresh grass. Once they were bigger we put them in a mobile turkey house and moved them to fresh grass each day.

There's a New Guard Dog for Hannah's Hens!

Our 8 year old daughter Hannah is today's author, here to share about a new addition to Hannah's Hens: Our new guard dog's name is Panda. He guards our front door really well! He sits on the doormat in front of the door so we can't go out. He's supposed to guard our chickens, not our door!
